Taking It Easy
Now this is what I call a slow start into the new year. Nearly half of January has passed already and I'm on my second blog post! Well, it's been busy at our quarters in the last couple of weeks, what with my birthday celebrations and all ... And now I'm finally ready to embrace life at its usual pace :)
For a proper start, I'll make your mouth water with some of the Christmas & birthday goodies we made. As usual, I'm still not one for carrying my little camera around the house and taking photos of everything I do, so here's a very limited selection of our makings:
I always make shortbread for Christmas, following the above recipe. Always a success :)
Another batch was a chocolatey one - one half of the rice flour substituted by cocoa powder. Yummy!
The ones below are seriously the best biscuits ever. My little girl (with a brand new hair do) has been a busy bee :) And a great helper!
Next project and more help - I love making yummy treats with my girl!
The biscuits turned out absolutely gorgeous - and delicious. Looking forward to this year's Christmas :)
(P.S.: an Easter Bunny has hopped onto our plate of Christmas biscuits - no wonder, considering the weather!)

Happy 2014 & Current Read
I hope you've had a soft and gentle start into the new year, my dear blogging friends. Our family spent the New Year's Eve at our place with some closest friends, talking, playing games and having a wonderful time.
Yesterday I celebrated my birthday, which was another good start of the new year :) I got many lovely presents - blog posts to follow!

Yarn Bombing Part II
Right, in my previous post I promised to tell you about my secret crochet project. Here's the thing: one of our best friends celebrated his 40th birthday last weekend. A group of friends had decided to present him with a new bike. Since there were two avid hookers (!) in the group, we decided to yarnbomb the vehicle!
I made the seat cover...
... and the handlebar covers,...
...each with a bunting flag.
The cross bar bunting was made by my good friend M.
The surprise present was exactly that -
- a lovely surprise!

Birthdays By The Riverside
The other weekend we spent a lovely afternoon at a riverside cabin not far away from our hometown. My two godsons were celebrating their 15th and 18th birthday respectively, and we were delighted to join the party. My boy and I cycled to the location (18 miles) as it was a gorgeous late-spring day. Which turned into a nasty cold rainy day in the afternoon but never mind :)
The birthday boys, two brothers, love B-B-Qing so they treated us to a delicious al fresco meal - with lots of yummy grilled vegetables! The cake was made by their Grandma, famous for her pastries - totally and utterly delicious, it was!
We ate, drank, talked, walked, played games and generally had a lovely time - another year cannot pass quickly enough! Or can it...?

Oh William, Sweet William...

I used to be absolutely certain that April 23 was William Shakespeare's birthday (that's what we were taught at university, for some reason). It was only today that I discovered, upon googling his portrait, that his actual birthdate was not really known, but he was baptised on April 26. So today we're marking the anniversary of his death. Even though this was supposed to be a 'Happy Birthday' post (I always thought it was really cool that he'd died on his birthday...).
