Being Creative Gallery - Dessert

For this month's theme, dessert, I decided to make the actual thing, with Easter holiday conveniently asking for some baked goodies to be put on the table!

I made my absolutely favourite Easter treat, traditionally British (has to be, I've expressed my sincere love and affection for the Island often enough...) - Simnel Cake. I love the rich taste of dried fruit and marzipan, and I was brave enough to make my own marzipan this year! The absolutely wonderful recipe from an old issue of the Country Living magazine proved to be extremely helpful, of course.

This time I made twelve marzipan balls, for the twelve apostles (I followed the recipe...) instead of eleven - some recipes suggest one should leave out Judas, but, since 'he' gets eaten anyway, why bother... :)

My little girl helped with the choice of ribbons, I thought they were splendid!

And, needless to say, the cake was absolutely and utterly delicious. What you see on the pics... ancient history!

P.S.: I did manage to slightly burn the top layer, sorry about that, but luckily my little accident did not affect the taste of my masterpiece!

A Crochet Bag

I made this bag as a birthday present for a little girl, the daughter of our very dear friends and of course a good friend of my two children.

She had been impressed by my crochet work and I thought a colourful Granny Square bag would be a lovely surprise for her. It was, she was delighted! Even though, she confided in me, she would, just a little bit, prefer a scarf... :) Next year, then!

My little girl was very much impressed by the bag as well so I'm making another one for her. I might borrow it occasionally...

Fancy one yourself?

A Walk In The Woods

On Easter Sunday, after the early morning Easter mass, a long, delicious and filling brunch, and, of course, a nap, we decided to go for a walk in the nearby woods. The area where we live is densely covered with forests and a stroll in the midst of lovely greenery is always only a step away.

There is a charming path leading through a part of the woods near our home, with various flora & fauna, and there's a 'guided tour' in the form of little wooden plaques that explain what you're passing by.

My husband called this a 'Harry Potter' tree... It does have a certain magical touch to it, doesn't it? Even more so in real life, the pictures (my pictures, I'm afraid) don't really do justice to this fabulous magical tree...

It's all crooked and covered in ivy and when looking at it you somewhat expect it will speak to you... one way or the other...

My boy packed his pocket knife and carved a huge amount of wands and walking sticks from old branches - enjoying himself to bits!

My girl picked flowers and frolicked around the woods like there was no tomorrow... She's such a happy little soul!

My husband & I enjoyed the peace and quiet (with two children? nearly impossible, wouldn't you say?) and put this walk into the drawer of the most pleasurable memories in the back of our minds.

But, as any pleasurable activity, the walk was eventually finished.

And all I can say at this point is bye-bye for now!

A New Friend

The other day in the capital I re-visited a precious little shop in the old city centre where you can get all sorts of pretty crafty stuff hand-made by Slovenian designers (sort of like Slovenian Etsy in a shop...). I instantly fell in love with this colourful bird brooch - it's made of wire and wrapped in tiny ribbons & lace.

After the incredibly nice shop owner explained how one of her previous customers put a bird brooch on the hem of her skirt, I immediately heard this particular birdie calling my name... It so wanted to live on the hem of my green coat! So, what's a girl to do?

Pink Green Fair Isle Polka Dots

I'm very partial to 'outfit details' shots these days. I believe they tell a lovely story if you put your mind into them!

This has been my dream come true - apple green shoes & pink socks with white polka dots :)

My lovely cardi from Ness - my birthday present to myself :)

A new bracelet I made the other day - inspired by this one - the heart used to be a pin, hardly ever worn, and now I wear it either on a chain or on a bracelet. Love it!

A Trip Down The Memory Lane

This was my post a year ago today. I thought I would dig up an outfit but it was about Blossom! Still living on the shelf above my computer desk - still cute!

P.S.: My paternal grandmother would've been ninety-four today. She died in 1982.
P.P.S.: Twenty-second anniversary of my maternal grandmother's death.

All on the same day!

Sunday Wear

Last Sunday outfit. I wore this to church and then to an impromptu friend's birthday party afterwards. Again a bunch of favourites: the Boden skirt, my herringbone jacket, the shoes...

It was a lovely spring day and we really enjoyed our coffee & cake in our friends' garden.

The children frolicked around while the parents chatted away in the warm sun. Bliss!

Upon returning home I managed to have a few pics taken by my husband - after a really long time some lovely outdoor scenery!

I'm wearing:

- shoes - Alpina (local brand)
- tights - Polzela (local brand)
- skirt - Boden
- jacket - In Wear
- leather belt - local supermarket
- top - local boutique
- heart pendant - self-made from a brooch
- sunglasses - Madonna for H&M
- bag - Sisley, borrowed from Mum
- pashmina - birthday gift from friends, embellished by me! Close-up to follow...

How was your Sunday?
