What I Did Last Friday Night

I sang.
Our choir held its annual concert,
an evening of love songs.

It was lovely.

Especially with both my husband
and my son being on stage as well :)

Happy Birthday To Our Choir!

Last week, our choir celebrated its ninth birthday. On such occasions, it's highly appropriate to make a birthday cake, isn't it? Well, I thought so and I made one!

This looks like a finished product but it's actually only half way through. It's vanilla buttercream icing in the 'sandwich', with some white chocolate bits and some hundreds-and-thousands. Yummy :)

The top was a bit too high so I chopped it off...

Then I made some chocolate buttercream icing.

All ingredients are neatly stored in pretty jars (obviously, this photo belongs a bit further up!)...

There - the cake is nearly done...

Nine birthday candles and some obligatory bunting...

It was absolutely delicious!

Yay For Music!

St Cecilia

We're celebrating the feast of Saint Cecilia today, the patron saint of music. I love music. I sing both in the local parish choir and mixed choir and it's great fun. Particularly the last couple of months - my boy decided to start singing with us as well!

Our choir at this year's annual concert in June

We usually celebrate the day with a little do at the local parish hall, after we sing at the mass. And this year, to mark the day even more solemnly, my talented pianist had his first performance of the academic year.

The Beginnings...

P.S.: Outfit of the day to follow!

In Concert

Our choir held its annual concert last Friday. The programme included a selection of Slovenian evergreens. It was lovely. A great time was had by all. The concert was followed by a party, details to follow : )  Just saying that a yummy Jubilee Cake was consumed and appreciated...

Christmas Bazaar

Last week at my children's school. Both my boy and my little girl performed on stage as they both sing in the school choir. Together! It makes my heart melt when I see (and hear) them sing... It was a lovely performance and after that we could purchase some lovely Christmas decorations, hand-made by the school children. I couldn't resist, obviously. It was for a good cause, as well...

I got a lovely piece of hand-painted pottery - my little girl chose this particular bowl with white & silver decorations. Then I chose two pretty gift boxes - I can never resist any sort of polka dots... Can you?

Four Christmas tree decorations, one for each family member: the fairy is for my little girl (of course), the sugar cane is for my boy, Santa's boot for my husband, and I chose the red present for myself. So pretty!

I loved the wooden plaques as well. I might hang them on our tree, but then again I might not. There are so many places one can hang a Christmassy wooden plaque, aren't there?

Last but not least, two little creatures made of polymer clay, chosen by my children - the bumble bee for the girl and the penguin for the boy. Cute!

I love bazaars!

P.S.: The napkin was hand-embroidered by my Mum!

Vocabella

I was going to do one last Breast Cancer Awareness post today but changed my mind after attending an absolutely fabulous concert in my hometown, together with my little girl. We'd been looking forward to seeing (and hearing...) these girls perform for quite a while now and tonight was the night - definitely worth the long wait!

Vocabella is a group of six young women from my hometown (most of them live here, anyway) - three of them are also members of our local choir. They are all incredibly talented and the project they have embarked on together is bearing rich fruit - in the form of tonight's concert.

The girls kindly invited the public to step into their world, which is a world of gospel and pop music. The group was accompanied by creme-de-la-creme of the town's musicians, joint together in an impromptu band for the evening - what more can you wish for?

If you wish to get to know them a little bit you are cordially invited to visit their homepage or find them on Facebook. If you want to hear them perform check these links on YouTube. The girls rock!

In Concert

The choir I sing in held its annual concert last Friday. It was a lovely evening. This is a picture of me on stage - not singing, though. Pictures of people performing are usually a bit funny, with our mouths open and things like that...

Our 'singing' uniform is black trousers/skirt and a black top, and the female part of the choir can add any colourful accessories we like (men wear coloured ties). This time I chose a gorgeous peony blossom I got at L'Occitane the other day and I wore a pair of gorgeous acid green high-heel sandals I borrowed from a friend - I'll post a pic of those as well!
