Anxiously Waiting ...

... for St Nick,
he's expected tonight!

My girl set the table
& prepared a snack for the old boy.

Let's hope he enjoys it :)

Advent Sunday, And Not The First One!

Some unplanned blogging absence due to certain health issues in the family - better now, thank you very much. I realise I'm a bit late for introducing our advent wreaths this year but hey, it's only the second Sunday in Advent :)

My little girl & I attended a wreath-making workshop on the Saturday before the first Sunday in Advent and made three lovely wreaths for our home (plus the fourth one for my Mum, forgot to take a picture, sorry).

The above wreath is my little girl's work - she's a pro, isn't she? The wreath lives in her & her brother's bedroom and we light a candle (two this week) every night when saying our prayers.

The second wreath is my creation, it lives in our dining room and we light the candles during lunchtime. Magic!

This one hangs on our sitting-room door to welcome the visitors in our home. Made by me :)

We bought a lovely wreath for our main entrance, handmade by a local craftsman - it's absolutely gorgeous, but as usual, the picture has yet to be taken ...

Stay tuned!

St Francis Of Assisi

It's his feast today.
I'd say he's my favourite saint
(I know, rather predictable, but there you go).

Canticle of the Sun

Most high, all powerful, all good Lord!
All praise is Yours, all glory,

all honor, and all blessing.
To You, alone, Most High, do they belong.
No mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your name.
Be praised, my Lord, through all Your creatures,
especially through my lord Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and You give light through him.
And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor!
Of You, Most High, he bears the likeness.
Be praised, my Lord,
through Sister Moon and the stars;
in the heavens You have made them

bright, precious and beautiful.
Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air,
and clouds and storms, and all the weather,
through which You give Your creatures sustenance.
Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water;
she is very useful, and humble,

and precious, and pure.
Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom You brighten the night.
He is beautiful and cheerful,

and powerful and strong.
Be praised, my Lord,
through our sister Mother Earth,
who feeds us and rules us,
and produces various fruits

with colored flowers and herbs.
Be praised, my Lord, through those
who forgive for love of You;
through those who endure sickness and trial.
Happy those who endure in peace,
for by You, Most High, they will be crowned.
Be praised, my Lord,
through our sister Bodily Death,
from whose embrace no living person can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin!
Happy those she finds doing Your most holy will.
The second death can do no harm to them.
Praise and bless my Lord, and give thanks,
and serve Him with great humility.

Palm Sunday

We celebrated Palm Sunday yesterday,
with lots of greenery.
This is what we traditionally take to church:

Outfit of the day was more or less like this one
with the exception of my headgear
(the pink hat is from Seeberger as well).

The first bunch of greenery from the left was 'created' by my son;
he was incredibly proud of having used enormous amounts of yarn to put it together :)
The colourful one was purchased by my Mum,
it's a traditional Slovenian thing. Love it!
The third one was made by my little girl
at a creative workshop last week,
with a little help of the lady who ran it.
Isn't it pretty?
And the fourth one is just
a bunch of olive branches,
tied up with some red ribbon.

I accessorized the outfit with my suede pink clutch. It matches the hat :)

Another pic of our greenery...

... hope you all had a lovely Palm Sunday!

Celebrating Culture

We're having a day off. Celebrating with my boy getting ready for his piano competition next week and the ninth anniversary of our choir - I've made a delicious cake with chocolate buttercream icing (more on that to come)...  Anyway, lots of music!

St Nick's

Were you all good boys and girls?
Did you get any presents?

We got our plates out on the dining room table last night - family tradition! They were full of yummy goodies in the morning - and some toys for the little ones...  My girl made a cup of coffee for St Nick, put some chocolate on a plate, drew him a picture and left a note. The cup was empty in the morning and there were chocolate wrappings on the plate. St Nick said 'Thank you'! :)

Yay For Music!

St Cecilia

We're celebrating the feast of Saint Cecilia today, the patron saint of music. I love music. I sing both in the local parish choir and mixed choir and it's great fun. Particularly the last couple of months - my boy decided to start singing with us as well!

Our choir at this year's annual concert in June

We usually celebrate the day with a little do at the local parish hall, after we sing at the mass. And this year, to mark the day even more solemnly, my talented pianist had his first performance of the academic year.

The Beginnings...

P.S.: Outfit of the day to follow!

Piece Of Heaven

We went on a trip yesterday with some friends from our church. It was lovely, to say the least.

The tiny secluded church was breathtaking - I was absolutely amazed by the sight of it.

There was an old small graveyard just down the hill from the church.

The skies were the bluest blue and the trees were the greenest green.

My two littles (I will very soon be overgrown by my boy, mind you!) were enthusiastic bell-ringers.

It was a magical spring day.

We'll be back.

Seaside Cycling

It's been three weeks since we returned home from our seaside holiday. A lot has happened in these three weeks. My husband had a bad cycling accident (both arms in plaster cast as of yesterday!), I managed to translate eighty-five pages (of densely printed text) in seventeen days (Slovenian into English), my boy and my girl are back to school.

Our seaside holiday seems like ages and ages ago. We had a great time, though, and memories of enjoyable moments are always welcome when life gets a little rough.

We usually take our bikes to the seaside, there are some absolutely wonderful cycling paths in that part of our country. This year was no exception. The only problem is that I very rarely remember to take my camera along, I only make mental pictures of the absolutely breathtaking scenery.

These pictures were taken in the town of Koper, Slovenia, where we cycled along the coastline from our holiday resort, fifteen kilometres away. The cycling path between Portorose and Koper is truly enjoyable, winding its way through old railway tunnels, sweet-smelling vineyards and peach orchards. Heaven on Earth, I tell you.

It somehow never occurred to me to actually take a picture of us cycling or at least one of our bikes, but here we are, relaxing after our first half of the ride, and after some delicious ice cream, at one of Koper's beautiful lush and green parks.

P.S.: This is how our little girl manages to push her Lil Stardust for thirty kilometres...
