What I Did Last Weekend

I sang in a choir, performing The Passion of The Christ

The performance was a great success
and a magnificent experience.
Will put it on repeat for next year :)

Easter Goodies

In the week after Easter I'm still allowing myself to post about our Easter weekend - first the yummy food! I made the traditional Simnel cake (not traditional in Slovenia, but traditional for me since it's a British tradition, ha! :) and two batches of Hot Cross Buns (another British tradition in my family...). My husband and my little girl did the egg-colouring business. Surprisingly, with all my love for crafting, I've never really enjoyed colouring Easter eggs. I'm glad my daughter is looking forward to it every year :)

Apart from these, we also had traditional ham baked in bread, grated horseradish and spring onions, and my M-i-L made the delicious traditional (Slovenian this time) walnut cake roll. We took the food to church for the blessing.

Obviously, most of the food has been eaten by now, but there might be one or two forgotten Hot Cross Buns in the tin, and plenty of the walnut cake roll left, should you fancy stopping by for a cuppa!

Easter? Spring? Or Christmas?

Judging by my outfit, the latter. This week's one, mind you. The church is freezing cold and we're spending a lot of time there these days. The feeling is rather Christmassy, weather-wise...

Outfit details:

- boots - Alpina (local brand)
- skinny jeans - Joules
- belt (on jeans) - Benetton
- sweater - Benetton
- shirt - Playlife
- scarf - Laura Ashley
- angel brooch - birthday present
- coat - Corazon
- leather belt - Jack Jones
- hat - my Mum's

Have the most wonderful
and blessed Easter!

Palm Sunday

We celebrated Palm Sunday yesterday,
with lots of greenery.
This is what we traditionally take to church:

Outfit of the day was more or less like this one
with the exception of my headgear
(the pink hat is from Seeberger as well).

The first bunch of greenery from the left was 'created' by my son;
he was incredibly proud of having used enormous amounts of yarn to put it together :)
The colourful one was purchased by my Mum,
it's a traditional Slovenian thing. Love it!
The third one was made by my little girl
at a creative workshop last week,
with a little help of the lady who ran it.
Isn't it pretty?
And the fourth one is just
a bunch of olive branches,
tied up with some red ribbon.

I accessorized the outfit with my suede pink clutch. It matches the hat :)

Another pic of our greenery...

... hope you all had a lovely Palm Sunday!

Easter 2012 - Decoration

One more Easter post - this is how we decorated our home - our first Easter in our new house (well, the house is not really new, but it is our new home)!

Front door - I bought the Bunny Wreath years ago, it's from Gisela Graham and I love it.

My little book nook on the staircase - I made the crochet stool cover at the end of last year.

Top of the stairs - some pretty handmade cards & glass Easter eggs.

Another picture of my decorated book nook!

Mini bird - handmade by me.

Easter cockerel - handmade by my boy, a few years ago (with a little help from Mummy...)!

Pink bird - handmade by me.

Red bird - handmade by my little girl, a few years ago (with a little help from Mummy as well...)!

Dining room centrepiece.

I love decorating our house!

Easter 2012 - Food

My dear friends, I hope you all had a lovely Easter. Ours was perfect - well, almost, as the weather was not entirely cooperative. We had another quick winter visit over the weekend and I'm afraid those pretty purple ballerinas that my little girl was looking forward to wearing to church on Easter Sunday will have to wait for a while. And they came all the way from Britain...! And just in time for Easter, too!

Anyway, for us, Easter is all about church and traditions, including some really yummy food. And since I'm much more into British traditions than our own I usually embark on preparing some tipically British dishes. As you can see, my Simnel Cake turned out perfectly well. And oh my, it was absolutely delicious! Mind the past tense - it's all gone now...

A box of chocolates I could not resist buying even though it was a bit on the pricey side. I loved the bunnies and the colours and would you believe it - the chocolates have not yet been eaten! I can hardly believe it myself...

Our Easter eggs - Basket No. 1; courtesy of my husband, children & Mum-in-law; for some strange reason, even though I love crafting, I'm not very much into egg colouring. Go figure.

More Easter bunnies - love love love the box, it's a keeper!

Another British tradition of mine - Hot Cross Buns. I always make loads and loads and give them away to all our family and friends. Yummy as well!

And some more bunnies... I told you I loved the colours and all... Plus you get to see our gorgeous daffodils!

Easter eggs - Basket No. 2. The brown ones are dyed with onion skin, so clever, isn't it!

Some more bunnies & pretty daffodils...

So good to be back!

Being Creative Gallery - Dessert

For this month's theme, dessert, I decided to make the actual thing, with Easter holiday conveniently asking for some baked goodies to be put on the table!

I made my absolutely favourite Easter treat, traditionally British (has to be, I've expressed my sincere love and affection for the Island often enough...) - Simnel Cake. I love the rich taste of dried fruit and marzipan, and I was brave enough to make my own marzipan this year! The absolutely wonderful recipe from an old issue of the Country Living magazine proved to be extremely helpful, of course.

This time I made twelve marzipan balls, for the twelve apostles (I followed the recipe...) instead of eleven - some recipes suggest one should leave out Judas, but, since 'he' gets eaten anyway, why bother... :)

My little girl helped with the choice of ribbons, I thought they were splendid!

And, needless to say, the cake was absolutely and utterly delicious. What you see on the pics... ancient history!

P.S.: I did manage to slightly burn the top layer, sorry about that, but luckily my little accident did not affect the taste of my masterpiece!

A Walk In The Woods

On Easter Sunday, after the early morning Easter mass, a long, delicious and filling brunch, and, of course, a nap, we decided to go for a walk in the nearby woods. The area where we live is densely covered with forests and a stroll in the midst of lovely greenery is always only a step away.

There is a charming path leading through a part of the woods near our home, with various flora & fauna, and there's a 'guided tour' in the form of little wooden plaques that explain what you're passing by.

My husband called this a 'Harry Potter' tree... It does have a certain magical touch to it, doesn't it? Even more so in real life, the pictures (my pictures, I'm afraid) don't really do justice to this fabulous magical tree...

It's all crooked and covered in ivy and when looking at it you somewhat expect it will speak to you... one way or the other...

My boy packed his pocket knife and carved a huge amount of wands and walking sticks from old branches - enjoying himself to bits!

My girl picked flowers and frolicked around the woods like there was no tomorrow... She's such a happy little soul!

My husband & I enjoyed the peace and quiet (with two children? nearly impossible, wouldn't you say?) and put this walk into the drawer of the most pleasurable memories in the back of our minds.

But, as any pleasurable activity, the walk was eventually finished.

And all I can say at this point is bye-bye for now!
