More Treats

For those with a sweet tooth this time: my birthday cake! I made this for my girlfriends' party. It was delicious, I was told. It's made with orange zest & juice and ground almonds. The recipe requires chocolate icing but I chose chocolate buttercream icing which made it even more gooey... The pralines add a nice touch plus they're totally delicious as well. As always, it took me some time before I remembered to take out my camera...

There's still a slice in the pantry, I believe. You're welcome :)

Calendar Cakes Part Three

If you have been reading my blog every now and then you might have stumbled upon these two posts about my 'Calendar Cakes'. By last November I had made ten lovely desserts based on the calendar recipes and of course, it would have been extremely rude not to complete the task :)

So, here come the end-of-year treats:

- Dundee Cake in November

Hopelessly delicious and as you can see, before I remembered to take out my little pink camera this was all that was left of it...

- Festive Yule Log in December

Rather yummy as well, I was told; I didn't actually have any. But the oooohs and aaahs of my family and friends proved the point :)

Here's to another round - hopefully!

New Uniform

I think I have just found my new uniform, people! I have been looking for the perfect pair of jeans for ages and last Friday, the postman was so kind to bring them to me! Initially, I was after the skinny cut but luckily it was out of stock and I ordered boot-cut. Much more flattering and versatile, I think! And I finally own a pair of jeans that is more or less tight both on my legs and around my waist. I have huge problems with that, skinny jeans that I can pull over my thighs are usually double the size of my bum and waist, for some reason. This time, it totally worked!

Another 'uniform' item is this Boden jacket which as well was love at first sight. It's soft and warm and with its huge blossomy buttons, it looks absolutely adorable! Dressed up or down, it doesn't matter, it looks great with both skirts and jeans. Love.

Well, my angel brooches have been my faithful companions for ages, so I guess they can be part of my 'uniform' as well.

Berets, corsages, scarves... same old, same old...

Fairisle gloves - new love! I'm a big fan of fingerless gloves as my hands and fingers are constantly cold and you can very often find me wearing gloves when I work in front of my computer :)

So, what's new about my uniform, then? My Dalmatian jumper! Isn't this the most adorable piece of clothing you've ever seen? It arrived together with my perfect pair of jeans and, how lucky am I?, it's another piece of perfection! I've been wearing it every day and my little girl has been rather amused about it - 'Oh, Mummy, your dog jumper again!' (smile)...

I can't help it, it's totally adorable :)

Birthday Presents Part II

Once again: happy, happy, happy!
This time, some presents I got from my friends:

- another 'British' case -  I can now travel in style, clothes in my Union Jack and cosmetics in my London vanity case :)

- a gorgeous necklace with a watch that actually works!

- and it came in this scrumptuous box!

- plus this precious book - my fingers are itching...

I also got a set of beautiful red wine glasses and a framed photo as a reminder of my last year's 40th birthday party.

Thank you so much, dear friends!

Birthday Presents Part I

 Happy, happy, happy!

- an angel pendant from my little girl (courtesy of her Dad, of course)

- an incredibly gorgeous suitcase from my boy (I can no longer refer to him as little; as of last Saturday, he is officially taller than me - for about an inch, at this point!) - he knows exactly what I like (courtesy of his Dad, again)

- apart from the children's gifts, my husband got me a yearly subscription to my favourite magazine in the whole world - yay!

- an angel brooch from my Mum & Dad
(they asked if there was anything I wished for...)

- two lovely bunches of spring flowers - in January! - from my parents as well - love them!

- last but certainly not least - another angel brooch from my Mum-in-law
(same question as my parents...)

What can I say?
Happy, happy, happy!

P.S.: Can you spot the coincidental likeness of the two angel brooches? The same pose,  almost the same dresses, similar hair... twins, meant to be together!

Birthday Outfit

This is what I wore on my birthday. It was Sunday, so we went to church in the morning. After lunch my husband took me to an early afternoon concert. It was brilliant, one of the best Slovenian male vocal groups performed at a little church in the countryside where they had recorded a CD of traditional Slovenian Christmas songs last autumn. As the Christmas spirit is still around, we really enjoyed their performance.
